Beyond the Early Years
Therapy for parenting struggles beyond the early stages
“this isn’t what i expected.”
Parenting a toddler or grade schooler is not as easy as you thought.
You’ve made it through the sleep deprived fog of new parenthood. Your child is (maybe) sleeping well, they are smiling at you, cooing, maybe even saying some words, crawling or walking, and you are feeling like you’ve finally got this parenting thing down. And then they reach toddlerhood. All hell breaks loose. What happened to your sweet baby?! Why are you losing your temper so much? You have never been a yeller and now you can’t seem to stop raising your voice. Everything feels like it’s out of your control. What happened?!
You’re ready to feel good again about who you are as a parent.
“I thought this part would be easier.”
Parenting can be one of the most rewarding experiences of your life. It is also, without a doubt, one of the most challenging experiences. As soon as you think you have your kid figured out, they change. And if you have more than one kid, what works for one doesn’t work for the other. Becoming a parent can also bring up so much about how your parents parented you, which can feel super complicated. Going to therapy to address parenting-related struggles can help you:
Process your own upbringing so you don’t repeat painful patterns
Learn ways to stay calm regardless of whatever stage your kid is in, no matter how crazy-making it feels
Find ways to take care of yourself so that you stop feeling spread so thin and can truly be present with your family
Tune out the noise of popular parenting advice and tune in to what works best for your unique family circumstances
In our sessions together, we will…
Discover what works for you and focus on how you actually want to parent
We live in a world with SO much outside influence, from family and friends to social media influencers. In the parenting realm this can be REALLY overwhelming. What is right for your family? I want to help you tune out the noise and tune IN to what works for your unique situation.
Explore how your own upbringing might be affecting how you parent
Whether or not you want to admit it, how you were parented is likely affecting how you parent your kids…the good, the bad, and the ugly. Reflecting on what you learned, and how that might be showing up in your own parenting, can help you feel empowered to make positive changes.
Learn new ways to cope
As a parent, the best thing you can do to help improve your kids’ behavior is for you to manage your own emotions. This takes time, practice, and patience, and together we will help get you there.
You’re worth the investment.
