About sarah hagen, lcsw, pmh-c

You don’t have to carry this all on your own.

I’m a therapist for moms, certified in perinatal mental health and trained in EMDR, based out of Fairfax, VA.

please Hear me when I say:

Being here doesn’t mean you’re weak. It means you’re strong.

I want you to know that I get it. I am a mom of three and struggled with my own adjustment to parenthood. I experienced postpartum anxiety that went undiagnosed and turned into postpartum depression. My own experience is what inspired me to help other parents going through the same thing. You are not alone.

How I work

At the core of my approach to therapy is a belief that you are the expert on your life.

As your therapist, my role is to support you, offer a safe place for you to show up and do the work, and help guide you. I want therapy to be safe, effective, accessible, and meaningful. I also believe laughter to be therapeutic in and of itself, and I love laughing with my clients.

In sessions with me, we will work through the road blocks that are keeping you from showing up in your life the way you want to. Whether with EMDR therapy, talk therapy, or a combination of different strategies, we will work together to overcome the obstacles that are bringing you to therapy.

Therapy with me is…

  • There is no one size fits all approach to therapy. In our first few sessions, we will work together to determine specifically what YOU want to get out of therapy, and come up with a plan to get you there.

  • I always tell my clients to be honest with me - you won’t hurt my feelings! Therapy won’t be effective if we aren’t talking about what is really going on. I also want to know if something we are doing isn’t working so that we can change our approach. And I promise to be honest, too.

  • Whatever brings you to therapy, having the courage to work through these problems is a sign of serious strength. As you start to make progress in therapy and feel better, you will see so many aspects of your life change, from your relationships to your confidence to your mood. And that is SO meaningful!
