therapy for moms in fairfax, va

Compassionate therapy that heals from the inside, out.

Becoming a mom doesn’t look or feel the way you expected it would.

Before becoming a parent, you had visions of a beautiful pregnancy, a birth that went according to plan, and a blissful postpartum experience with your new bundle of joy. The reality? Not quite what you expected.

  • Unplanned C/sections, health issues, NICU stays, birth not going as planned…birth trauma comes in many different forms. You can find peace and acceptance with your birth.

  • Becoming a parent causes many people to reflect on their own childhoods with a different perspective. This can bring up difficult feelings, and having the support of a therapist can help tremendously with this process.

  • It’s normal to miss parts of your pre-kid life! Sleep, less arguments with your partner, time alone…the list goes on! No matter how prepared you feel, becoming a parent is the biggest identity shift of your life.

  • Perinatal (the period of time encompassing pregnancy, birth, and postpartum) mood and anxiety disorders affect up to 1 in 5 mothers, and can significantly impact your experience of motherhood.

I’m sarah.

I believe you deserve relief from pain and hope for healing.

I know how hard this is because I’ve been there. As a mom of 3, I experienced undiagnosed and untreated postpartum anxiety after my first pregnancy which evolved into postpartum depression.

My own experience with pregnancy, postpartum, and parenting is what inspired me to focus my therapy practice on parents. If, as a therapist, I didn’t know about postpartum anxiety and depression, I knew that there were so many other parents out there suffering unnecessarily, too. You are not alone.

How I can help

I specialize in therapy for lasting change.

  • Perinatal mood and anxiety disorders, like postpartum depression and anxiety, affect as many as 1 in 5 moms and 1 in 10 dads. Symptoms like irritability, anger, feelings of guilt, tearfulness, difficulty leaving the baby, trouble sleeping, and more, can be signs of a perinatal mood or anxiety disorder. I am certified in perinatal mental health and can help.

  • Wherever you are on your parenting journey - from trying to conceive, to pregnancy, postpartum, and beyond, I can help you navigate this constantly evolving time that is full of transitions and changing roles and expectations.

  • I am trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing therapy, which is an evidence-based treatment for trauma. I have also found EMDR to be transformative with parents, helping them feel more confident in this new role.
